The Island of the Sleeping Lady

History:
Long before the age of western colonization, Kosrae( formerly known as Kusai) was inhabited by malayo-polynesian seafaring people, based on archeological evidence. However, studies are still ongoing and it
remains inconclusive. ( kosrae.com). "History." Kosrae Island-Magnificent everyday, 2010. (1/10/2017).
From the beginning until now, the island of Kosrae depicts the shape of a human figure lying down. The tale
behind the magnificent outline of the "sleeping lady" is another mystery that remains unanswered. According
to the indigenous population, the figure is the remains of a mother of four children. The names of the four
children are known today as the four villages of Kosrae ( Tafunsak, Malem, Utwe, Lelu).
Kosrae is a very decent place to visit and explore. With its untouched nature, Kosrae has a lot to offer,
ranging from diving sites to hiking trails and WWII artifacts. The people of Kosrae are known for their
hospitality and politeness. Kosrae is a very small place with a population of roughly 8,000. The island of
Sleeping Lady is known to the Micronesian region as the "Jewel of Micronesia".
